I can't say that I like injustice of any kind. I am always wanting to pick up my gear and defend the weak. My mother says that I have always been like this and that she called me Joan of Ark. Unfortunately, today's world is full of injustices big and small. I guess it means that we have not made such big strides in human nature since the times of Joan of Ark. It seems that we are limited to improving only in technological and personal advances.

I think that the worst thing for me to deal with is injustice against the defenseless. While crime is a sad topic that makes me cringe, crimes against children, the elderly, and animals affect me the most. They never had a fighting chance. So, now I want to introduce you to Runty. He is a pitbull belonging to a woman I once worked with a long time ago. This is not a favor for a friend as we barely knew each other. I just read the article and felt that Runty's situation is completely unfair. He did nothing wrong other than be a pitbull. Pitbull's do not have the best reputations. Because of bad raising and training and a history of being used as fight dogs, pitbulls are feared for their aggression. I think all big dogs seem more territorial when other dogs pass by but because of a reputation and their genetic ability to lock jaw, pitbulls are revered as the 'dangerous dog'. Even insurance companies charge higher premiums to home owners who also have 'dangerous dogs'. Mind you, I do agree that extra precautions need to be in place when owning any large powerful dog. Children need to learn to respect dogs or they will get bit, even if it is a family dog. The truth, however, remains that people have been a bigger threat to these dogs then they have ever been to people.

Runty was jailed because of the company he kept. In January, Runty's roomate, another pitbull, dug out of the fence to fight with a dog. Runty followed. Even the other dogs owner admitted early on that Runty was more of a spectator and did not get involved with the fight. Obviously, the other dog owner wanted to take steps against the dog that came after her dog and no one can blame her for that. The problem is that the dog never came back after the day of the fight. So the story continues and somehow the decision is made that Runty is a 'dangerous dog' and took him out of the house. The story itself is ripe with injustice as I present it but add to that the fact that state laws are being ignored and manipulated in order to take Runty and there is no reason for him to be captive. I want you to decide on your own after reading the story.

Today, the owner and her legal representative have already done a hearing and are preparing to take the next step in court. I am not sure that this article will help. I am not sure that joining the internet cause will help either but I am still going to ask you to do it. I am hoping that it will work like a petition. This whole article is my desperate plea for a little dog life that I may never officially meet. Honestly, how dangerous could a dog that wears booties be? This is sad and frustrating.

Do you own or know a pitbull?
